About Powerhouse Coworking in Christchurch

I’m Jack, the founder of Powerhouse — an independent coworking space in Christchurch where you deal directly with the person who built it.

How Powerhouse Started

Powerhouse started with a simple idea: work should feel energising, not draining. After years of working out of cafés, home offices and borrowed corners of other spaces, I wanted somewhere that actually made it easier to focus, connect and build good things.

In 2025 I took over the former Strawberry Fair building at 114 Peterborough Street and began turning it into a modern coworking space – one floor, one desk and one cable run at a time. What began as an empty shell is now a mix of hot desks, dedicated desks, private offices and shared spaces designed for real people doing real work.

Powerhouse is independently run, so things stay simple and human. When you book a tour, ask about parking or need a hand with the Wi-Fi, you’re dealing directly with the person who looks after the space every day and actually cares how it feels to work here.

If you’d like to see it in person, you can explore our memberships or private offices, then book a tour when you’re ready.

Who’s behind Powerhouse?

I’m Jack – founder, tour guide, fixer-of-things and unofficial coffee tester at Powerhouse.

My background is in engineering and startups, and I’m a bit obsessed with how spaces work – from the invisible stuff like cabling and Wi-Fi, through to how the layout actually feels when you’re sitting in it all day.

I didn’t want another generic corporate workspace. I wanted somewhere relaxed but professional, friendly but focused, with enough structure to get things done and enough personality that it doesn’t feel like you’re working in an airport lounge.

That’s what Powerhouse aims to be: a place where you know the owner, your neighbours say hi, and it’s easy to settle in and get on with your work.

What matters here

Straightforward

Clear pricing, flexible terms and no weird lock-ins. Just tell me what you need.

Personal

You deal directly with the owner, not a rotating support team or ticket system.

Local

Powerhouse is built for Christchurch people and businesses first, not a global template.

Come say hi

If you’re curious, the easiest next step is to pop in for a look. I’ll show you around, answer questions and you can see if the space feels right.
